Reflections on Discernment, Healing, and Inner Knowing

By Natalie Pray — Natalie in the Wild
Words have power.
Not just to describe our lives—but to clarify, restore, and sometimes even heal what has been lived without language.
The Word of the Day series is a contemplative collection of reflections.
It focuses on single, meaningful words.
These words are often drawn from philosophy, theology, psychology, and ancient languages.
They name inner experiences many people sense but struggle to articulate.
These are words that help us slow down, listen inwardly, and reconnect with truth without pressure.
What Is the Word of the Day Series?
Each entry focuses on one word, unpacking its meaning, origin, and lived significance through personal reflection and spiritual insight.
This series isn’t about learning more words.
It’s about learning how to trust what steadies us.

Why Words Matter in Healing and Faith
Many of us were taught—explicitly or subtly—to distrust our inner knowing.
We learned to:
- explain away intuition
- demand proof before honoring what we feel
- confuse urgency with truth
- mistake pressure for spiritual guidance
Over time, discernment can go quiet.
Not because it disappears—but because it learns it isn’t safe to speak.
The right word, encountered at the right moment, can reopen that connection.
Language gives shape to experience.
Words give permission to name what we already know.
In this way, Word of the Day becomes a spiritual practice.
It is also a healing one. It helps restore trust between mind, body, and spirit.
What You’ll Find in Each Word of the Day Entry
Each reflection may include:
- a clear definition and etymology
- a personal, lived-experience reflection
- a faith-integrated perspective on truth and discernment
- a gentle practice, prayer, or journaling prompt
These entries are intentionally calm and spacious.
They aren’t meant to rush insight or force conclusions.
They are meant to invite noticing, remembering, and listening.
How to Read This Series
There is no correct order.
There is no expectation to agree promptly.
There is no pressure to do anything with the insight right away.
Let the words meet you where you are.
Truth does not shout.
Discernment does not coerce.
Healing unfolds at the pace of safety.
A Quiet Intention Behind This Work
My hope is that this series helps restore trust:
- trust in God’s guidance
- trust in your inner life
- trust that clarity can be calm, not frantic
If a word helps you pause instead of panic,
listen instead of override,
or believe yourself sooner than you once did—
then it has done its work.

Series Signature
Truth does not rush.
It rests.
