Scripture: Philippians 1:12–17
Today I opened to Day 134 in my devotional, and I was struck by something I didn’t expect.
The theme was “Chains.”
The devotion didn’t frame chains as punishment or limitation.
Instead, it invited me to see them as a vehicle for the gospel.
Chains That Were Meant to Silence
Paul’s words in Philippians hit me right in the heart:
“Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have gained encouragement.
They now speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.”
— Philippians 1:14
Isn’t that wild?
The very thing meant to silence him ended up making others bolder.
That’s God.
When God Uses What Feels Like a Limitation
What stood out most was this line from the devotional:
“When we have the single mind, we view our circumstances as God-given opportunities.
These opportunities further the gospel.
We rejoice at what God is going to do.
We choose not to complain about what God did not do.”
That shift—from complaining to rejoicing, from frustration to faith—is where chains become catalysts.
Lately, I’ve been learning to look at my own “chains.”
These include past wounds, long delays, and hard and uncertain seasons.
I see them as places where God is preparing the soil for something new to grow. Instead of resenting the wait, I’m learning to ask a different question:
“Lord, how are You using this?”
From Complaining to Rejoicing
📝Reflection Questions
- Where do you feel chained right now?
- What God is doing in that place?
- How what feels like your greatest burden becomes someone else’s breakthrough?
Until next time—
stay rooted, stay wild.
