When God Makes the Sun Stand Still

A reflection on bold prayers, impossible faith, and the God who still shows up

By Natalie Pray

“So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies.”
Joshua 10:13 (NLT)

Tonight at Bible study, we read Joshua 10, and honestly—it stopped me in my tracks.

Joshua prayed for something so bold, so impossible, that it almost feels reckless to say out loud.

He asked God to make the sun stand still.

And God did.

Think about that for a moment.

God literally paused the universe to give His people victory—because Joshua prayed in faith.

That same God is with us today.

When Time Feels Like It’s Running Out

There have been seasons in my life when I felt like I was running out of time.

I felt I was running out of strength.

Honestly, I was running out of hope.

I didn’t need more daylight like Joshua.
But I needed a miracle.

And God showed up.

He didn’t let the darkness win.

He gave me hope when I had none.

He provided peace when anxiety was crushing me.

He also offered strength when I thought I couldn’t go on.

Joshua’s story reminds me that bold prayers don’t scare God.

They invite Him.

The God Who Still Does the Impossible

God isn’t distant. He’s not just a story on a page or a name we whisper when life falls apart.

He is the same God who made the sun stand still.

He steps into our lives today, over and over again.

He does what feels impossible.

When we feel pressed by time, overwhelmed by circumstances, or afraid we’ve missed our moment, Scripture reminds us of this truth:

God is not limited by clocks, calendars, or human strength.

A Gentle Invitation

Have you ever prayed a bold “sun stand still” prayer?

Or maybe you’re still waiting—wondering if God hears you.

If you need encouragement today, read Joshua 10:13 again.

Let it remind you that the God who once paused the sun is still working.

He is still listening and still moving in your life.

This happens even when it feels like time is running out.
