Scripture: Exodus 33:14

“And He said, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’”

Finding Calm in the Midst of Chaos

This promise was spoken by God to Moses after a season of deep failure and uncertainty.

The Israelites had turned away, worshipping the golden calf, and Moses stood pleading for God’s continued presence with His people. Everything felt fragile. Trust had been broken. The future felt unsure.

God’s response was simple—but powerful:

“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

For me, this verse feels like a deep breath when life feels heavy.

Lately, I’ve been wrestling with trust—longing for stability in a world that often feels unsteady beneath my feet. In those moments, my heart runs back to reminders like this: God’s presence is constant, and His nearness brings rest.

This is not a promise that all storms will stop overnight. It is a soul-deep assurance that I am never walking alone.

Rest That Doesn’t Depend on Performance

One of the most comforting truths in this passage is what God does not require.

His presence is not dependent on my perfection.
It is not dependent on my productivity.
It is not dependent on the opinions of others.

God does not say, “Fix everything first.”
He says, “I will go with you.”

That truth allows me to unclench my fists and breathe deeply. I can trust that He goes before me, surrounds me, and rests upon me—right where I am.

Choosing to Rest in God’s Presence

Rest, in this sense, is not passive.
It is not avoidance.
It is trust.

It is choosing to lean into the presence of God rather than striving for control or certainty.

When I remember that He is with me, I no longer have to carry everything on my own. I am held.

Affirmation

God’s presence goes before me, surrounds me, and rests upon me.
I am never alone, and in Him, I find my peace.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your presence.

When fear and anxiety rise within me, remind me that You go before me and dwell with me. Teach me to rest in Your promises rather than in my own understanding.

May Your presence be my safe place, and may Your peace guard my heart today.
Amen.

Journaling Prompt

Where do you need God’s presence to bring you peace today?
Write down the situations that feel overwhelming and intentionally surrender them to Him.

Even when life feels heavy, His presence brings rest.
