Wisdom in the Waves: Finding Peace in Nature’s Rhythm

When the waves of life crash hard, it’s easy to feel unsteady.

We wonder if we’ll ever find our footing again.

Yet Charles Spurgeon once wrote, “I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.”

At first, those words felt impossible to me.

Why would I ever embrace the very thing that causes pain?

But the longer I walk with God, the more I see the wisdom hidden in the rhythm of the waves.

The ocean never resists its storms.

It doesn’t fight the tide—it moves with it.

It surrenders, not in weakness, but in strength. And in that surrender, it finds renewal.

Each wave that strikes the shore is reshaping it, smoothing out the rough places, teaching it to yield without breaking.

So it is with me.

I used to believe security came from circumstances—safe housing, steady relationships, predictable days.

Yet life keeps showing me how fragile those anchors can be.

When everything feels uncertain, I’m learning to look deeper, to anchor myself in the Rock that does not move.

Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:8 that everything is loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.

That truth is becoming more real to me.

When I release my grip on control, I discover a peace that surpasses understanding.

Even in small things, I find God’s quiet assurance.

These include the comfort of my cat purring beside me.

Another is the sun breaking through after days of rain.

These are the gifts that whisper, “You are cared for. You are not alone.”

The waves will keep coming.

But now, instead of fearing them, I am beginning to see them as teachers.

Each one draws me closer to trust, closer to resilience, closer to God Himself.

Just as the sea absorbs and transforms the storm, I too am learning.

Life’s challenges shape me and refine me. They guide me back to what matters most.

✨ Affirmation:

I will not resist the waves of life. I will let them carry me to the Rock of Ages, where true peace is found.

📖 Scripture:

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.” — Psalm 18:2
