When I lose track of time, it’s usually because my soul has found something that feels like home.

What Makes Me Lose Track of Time: Creativity, Faith, Words & Symbols
By Natalie Pray | July 16, 2025
Which activities make you lose track of time—and why do they matter?
You know those moments when you glance at the clock and think, “Wait… how did two hours just disappear?”
That happens to me often.
And I’ve noticed something important:
Almost every time I lose track of time, I’m doing something connected to words and symbols.
I’ve always loved words.
They’re more than letters on a page—they’re life-giving, soul-healing, and heart-revealing.
Words carry beauty, truth, and power all at once.
When I write, it feels like setting my soul free.
But it’s not just words. I’m drawn to symbols too.
A simple image—a fox, a daffodil, an open book—can express what words sometimes can’t.
That’s why tattoos, nature, and art pull me in so deeply.
They tell the stories our hearts don’t always know how to say out loud.
The activities that make me lose track of time all flow from this love of words and symbols.
✍️ Writing & Journaling
When I journal, blog, or write poetry, hours can pass without me noticing.
Writing helps me untangle my thoughts and speak truth over my life.
It’s therapy on paper—a place where clarity replaces chaos.
📚 Reading Books
Books are both my escape and my sanctuary.
Give me a meaningful story or a devotional that stirs my soul, and time simply disappears.
Reading reminds me that words can open entire worlds—and sometimes heal hidden places within us.
🎨 Creating Art & Designing
Whether I’m sketching tattoo ideas, creating watercolor pages for my journal, or working inside my Masterbook, I get completely absorbed.
When art and words come together, something sacred happens—it feels like creative flow at its purest.
📷 Photography
Photography slows me down and teaches me how to see.
Capturing light in a flower or the quiet story of an old building is like writing with images.
It feels different from writing sentences.
It grounds me in the current moment.
🎵 Music
Music is another language my soul understands.
Whether I’m listening to worship music or building playlists, music wraps around my heart and gently pulls me into peace.
It helps regulate my emotions in ways words sometimes can’t.
📖 Studying God’s Word
When I open my Bible—especially a chapter like Ephesians or a verse that feels alive—I lose all sense of time.
Add worship music and a cup of coffee, and I’m fully immersed.
Scripture doesn’t rush me; it meets me.
🐾 Time with Animals (and Tyrone 🐱)
Animals speak a language that goes straight to the heart.
Long walks in nature, quiet moments outside, or simply cuddling with Tyrone bring me back to what truly matters.
(And yes—Tyrone makes sure he’s not ignored. 😹)
🌟 Why These Activities Matter
All of these activities share something in common.
They help me feel connected—to God, to myself, and to what’s meaningful in life.
They invite creativity, reflection, and peace. They allow me to tell stories through words, images, and symbols.
In these moments, I don’t feel rushed or fragmented. I feel whole. This is where my soul feels most at home.
